With Treadstone, USA Networks just teased a pretty compelling pilot for next season.

If you recall Treadstone was the black OPS CIA program designed to create super-human assassins. According to Deadline, Treadstone, “explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone — a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. The series follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.” Matt Damon does not seem to be involved, and he might not need to be since it’s a prequel. Especially if this series will focus on multiple super human assassins with different heightened abilities. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D does a pretty good job with that, as did Heroes, whose creator Tim Kring just happened to write Treadstone. Of course, this has nothing to do with those movies that fans were thinking of with Trump’s tweet, although the series might have been green-lighted thanks to renewed interest in the franchise.

It’s unclear if The Continental, Starz’s, John Wick offshoot will have anything to do with the Treadstone series considering they are from different networks and production companies, but that’s never stopped my conspiracy theories before. I think it could be cool to see these two new sleeper agent cell shows crossover. It would further cement other ideas fans have had about an interconnected assassin universe.
