The Treehouse of Horror XXVII marks the Simpsons’ 600th episode, and it was filled with gags slapping themselves on the back. As usual the Halloween Special was divided up into three stories, one about the Hunger Games, one about James Bond and one take about an evil imaginary friend.

Throughout it all, there were plenty of jokes about themselves and FX’s Sister Network FXX, will be airing all 600 episodes of the Simpsons for 13 days starting on November 24, Thanksgiving Day.

Now that the Simpsons have reached the 600 episode milestone, all it has to do is beat Gunsmoke’s record of 635 episodes, so that it can claim to be the longest running TV show in history! The Treehouse of Horror episode that just aired was the Simpsons’ 4th episode in season 28. It will likely break Gunsmoke’s record shortly, and when they do it will be in season 29.
