The Strain? Amid reports of sick passengers on board a flight that came from Dubai and stopped at Mecca JFK has quarantined and ten passengers have not been able to leave.

This is causing alarm not just in New York City, but around the world. As you know any number of movies and TV shows start with this scenario. These shows or movies usually center around a plague being spread throughout the world, the zombie apocalypse, or even other post-apocalyptic themes. Even the spectacular 12 Monkeys has a scenario similar to this, with time travel elements involved.

However, fans of The Strain, FX’s gory post-apocalyptic drama are talking. As the similarities of this event and the events in the pilot episode of that show are too eerie to ignore. The Strain centered around Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the CDC’s New York-based Canary Project, who is called upon to investigate an airplane landing wherein everyone aboard is dead. What his team discovers is a viral outbreak that has similarities to an ancient strain of vampirism. The virus begins to spread and Goodweather works with his team and a group of the city’s residents to wage a war to save humanity.

Most TV shows or movies with a plague have similar themes as to what’s happening in New York City right now.
