If you had any doubts, today is the day that Netflix officially became a TV channel in one of the largest deals in TV history. It has signed a massive nine figure deal with Ryan Murphy the iconic Television creator who already has American Crime Story, American Horror Story, and Glee under his credits.

Murphy stated that he had concerns about Disney’s ownership of Fox, and that what he does is not Disney content. Murphy’s deal with Fox expires on July 1, so every TV show that Murphy comes up with after that will be on Netflix. The shows that Murphy has already on the air, including new Fox hit 9-1-1 and Feud, will remain where they are.

Besides for the cash, Murphy’s iconic edgy style will now have unlimited freedom to curse the F off and I fully expect more gritty in depth series on Netflix. There could also be some nice collaborations between Shonda Rhimes and Murphy with whole new potential universes to explore. With those two on board the streaming channel, who knows what they could dream up?

It seems to be a win-win scenario, but FX must be nervous.
