With the news yesterday that The Big Bang Theory will be ending the longest-running multi-camera series in TV history in 2019. The popular TV show popularized and also alienated nerd culture. Some loved it, some loved to hate-watch it and everyone was surprised to see that it is ending. CBS worked hard with the cast to try to come up with two last seasons. The cast was set to make $1 million an episode until lead Jim Parsons walked.
It’s unclear why Parsons wanted out, but with his Broadway career and Young Sheldon a hit, Parsons has earned the right to do other things. Without, might I add, worrying about money. Kunal Nayyar has seemed to have put a lot of thought into a spinoff centering around his character Raj. It could be Old Fat Raj in the future. He stated at Comic Con last month. Before that he also touted the idea on Conan.
Likely how Young Sheldon does without his older self helping him in the ratings will be a major factor on whether or not the Big Bang Theory Universe will expand even more. If the Big Bang Theory gets anymore spinoffs it seems that it’s not a question of if, but when.
