Talent may soon be leaving 21st Century Fox, if tweets are to be believed. MacFarlane has almost single handedly spearheaded Fox’s Sunday night comedy lineup for years. On Saturday he tweeted that due to the rantings of Fox News over the immigration crisis, he was embarrassed to work for the network. What set him off were comments made by Tucker Carlson who said that viewers should not look to other news stations for information.
Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan joined his fellow showrunner, in decrying 21st Century Fox due to, Laura Ingram’s comments calling the children detention centers along the Mexican border “essentially summer camps.”
It’s interesting seeing two of the most successful people in TV hitting back at the people who pay them. Levitan’s contract seems to be up at the end of this year, and he is very likely going to be taking his talents elsewhere. MacFarlane always had a lot of freedom at the network. Details are unclear when MacFarlane’s contract ends with the network, but at one time he was the highest paid TV writer in history due to the exclusive deal he struck with Fox 12 years ago.
Laura Ingraham’s show on Fox News is under fire for saying those comments but it appears that for now the boycotts are left to angry twitter users on social media. It’s unclear what the status of her show is inside Fox News HQ. This comes a few days after Netflix saved Lucifer, the second high profile show that the network cancelled.
