The Kiefer Sutherland drama has been saved by Netflix. In the third season it looks like that Designated Survivor will focus on political campaigns.

It’s said that on top of hitting the campaign trail and learning how to get people to vote for him, President Kirkman will have to deal with fake news. One of the most relevant facets of modern day politics. Sutherland himself says that the Netflix format will be able to get deeper into the mythology. Without the oversight of ABC it will also be able to get pretty down and dirty; a nice change of pace for the political drama.

Netflix said that international numbers played a HUGE role in saving the series. While Hulu has exclusive rights to season 1 and 2 now, all three seasons will be on Netflix in the future. Designated Survivor joins Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Expanse as the fourth network drama saved from being cancelled in 2018. Code Black is rumored to be a fifth.
