It may be too soon to ask, if the Parts Unknown brand can live on without Anthony Bourdain. His death has left the cable news network shaken. It’s weekend summer schedule in tatters. Status of the airing of new episodes uncertain.
As Bourdain was a giant at CNN and one of CNN’s first foray’s into original content. Spearheaded by Bourdain, CNN has found massive success doing various weekend docu-series that follow the Parts Unknown format including United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell. Bourdain’s TV show has won five Emmys and a Peabody.
He’s eaten meals with pro-gun conservatives in West Virginia and five star celebrity chefs in Taiwan. He’s eaten at Waffle House and with Presidents. His journeys around the world have inspired people to travel more and to grow closer together. So it’s a shock to see that Bourdain felt so alone that he felt the only way out was to take his own life.
A CNN Special Tribute chronicling the adventures of the celebrity chef will air Friday and Sunday night at 10 PM. On Saturday, CNN will air some of Bourdain’s favorite episodes of Parts Unknown starting at 8 PM. Anderson Cooper will give a special introduction to the Parts Unknown Berlin episode. Which is still scheduled to air this Sunday at 9 PM. Tune in, even if it’ll make you hungry.
