If the future seems bright for Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland production company which makes the cookie cutter hits, How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, and The Catch along with the long running Grey’s Anatomy, it may not be as new competition doesn’t do well. It made waves during the Golden Age of TV that ended, circa 2016. However, any wise investor not distracted by their pretty cast members may want to stay away from this soapy bubble.

The reviews are in for Shonda-like TV shows, Conviction, and Notorious and while they may not have the same loyal fanbase as Shonda Rhimes does, they do have the same styles and plotlines. Of course Shondafans will be saying, oh these shows aren’t made by her, and that’s the ONLY reason that they aren’t as good. Is this actually true?

Regardless if that statement is true or not, the future actually does not bode well for this type of soapy drama. Other soap opera types like the rebooted Dallas lasted only three seasons, and the short-lived Blood & Oil didn’t even last one season! While Shonda looks towards comedy, hires more people in key production roles, and rakes in the cash. She may want to push into other genres just in case people get tired of her Scandal-like scandals in her TV shows. Her other secondary shows aren’t near as popular as Scandal, and Scandal does seem to be losing a lot of fans as of late.
