Video Game movies generally have not done well domestically, and hardly better internationally. It’s a franchise however, that Hollywood needs to get right if they want to continue milking rich storylines, creative characters, and pretty open-ended universes.

That’s why I have my doubts about Assassin’s Creed. Though it has a familiar historical setting and Michael Fassbender starring which gives it a nudge up against non A-list talent like Warcraft had to deal with. It may not even be enough to compete with the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi pic Passengers. That movie has two HUGE brand name stars and it’s playing to pretty much the same audience if not a more diverse date-movie group. The same group 2013’s Gravity starring Sandra Bullock/George Clooney got.

This is all before Assassin’s Creed ever even tries to go head to head with Star Wars. It’s just not that powerful a brand with limited audience appeal to even attempt to do that. I think Assassin’s Creed will bomb at the Box Office, much like Warcraft did.

It really is shocking to me that Hollywood can’t really get a video game franchise right except Tomb Raider.
