Monday’s episode of Better Call Saul which was Witness, Season 3 Episode 2  is the best of episode of the series so far. It catapults Jimmy McGill to Saul status as he comes face to face with the notorious Gus Fring and hires his sweet innocent secretary Francesca for the first time!

Jimmy momentarily becomes Saul Goodman multiple times throughout the one hour build up that leads to the dirty shenanigans that we all know is happening down at Los Pollos Hermanos resturants. As Mike follows an unconcerned gus henchman around all night watching him pick up bags. He knows something sneaky is afoot, so he hires the most slippery guy he knows.

The next day Jimmy McGill is on the case as he stakes out the restaurant to figure out what the guy does with the bag that he brings in there. And just who happens to be there sweeping up the restaurant and washing down tables? Gus Fring, the biggest meth runner this side of the border, but it is still unclear just how important Gus Fring is to the meth empire we all know.

Once Victor leaves the restaurant Jimmy tells Mike that nothing happened with the bag of cash and he even checked the trash can! By tricking Gus into thinking that he left his watch in it. Jimmy wants to pursue but Mike insists that he’s done for the day, after that, Jimmy says, “Hey, who’s got your back, huh? Me, that’s who!”

Echoes of Saul Goodman can also be traced back to when Jimmy is working on painting his logo on the walls of his new office. The M is a little crooked, as Francesca tells him, but he only cares that the logo doesn’t look like a stock market crash. In Saul’s mind, being crooked is OK, losing is not!
